AC Service Company on the Westside: Fix the Unit or Replace It

The AC stopped cooling, and you need an AC service company on the Westside that will give you the numbers before the wrench comes out. Westside AirCon Services works on air conditioners in Culver City, Mar Vista, Palms, West Los Angeles, Santa Monica and Venice. To get a tech scheduled, request the AC service visit and say what the unit is doing.

Where repair ends and replacement starts

The question behind an AC service call is simple: fix it or replace it. Here are the numbers we work from, as covered on our AC repair service.

  • About $800. Around $800 in repair costs is where we set repair against replacement. Below it, fixing the unit is the sensible spend.
  • A failed compressor. A new compressor installed runs $1,400 to $3,500.

Past that range, a compressor job sits next to the cost of a full system, so we put both numbers in front of you. We do not push one answer. A written quote follows the diagnosis, and no work starts until you have it.

The failed compressor is the large item. Smaller faults sit well below it: failing capacitors and contactors, a thermostat that no longer reads right, a worn coil or a refrigerant leak. Each gets its own line in the quote, so you see what is being repaired and what it costs. If you hold a second company's paper next to ours, the lines let you see exactly where the two differ, and which repair each one is asking you to pay for.

What the service visit covers

A tech who shows up should find the fault, not guess at it. On an AC visit we look at:

  • Compressor. Whether it runs, and whether it is the real problem or a symptom of another fault.
  • Refrigerant. Leak detection and repair, then the charge set after the leak is fixed.
  • Coils. Condenser and evaporator coils, which wear and corrode.
  • Electrical. Capacitors and contactors, which fail and are replaced on the van.
  • Thermostat. Calibration, and whether it reads the house correctly.

A written diagnostic report follows every visit. Coastal moisture near Santa Monica and Venice corrodes coils and connections faster than it does further inland, so our techs check for that wear even on a routine repair call. Our vans stock parts across the major brands, so whether the equipment is brand new or original to the house, repairs wrap in one visit when the parts are on hand.

Repair, tune-up or new system: which to book

You may not know yet which job you have. That is fine, and it is what the first visit is for.

  • The AC is down or weak. Book the repair. The diagnosis comes first, then the number.
  • The AC runs but you want it checked before it fails. Book a maintenance visit. Coils cleaned, refrigerant charge checked, electrical connections tightened, thermostat calibration tested, condensate drain cleared and a full run cycle to confirm it all works. Our AC maintenance service is priced from the visit, because the scope changes with the system, and the quote is written before work starts.
  • The repair quote lands near replacement. Ask for the install number too. Our AC installation service starts with a walk-through and a written scope.

Whichever you choose, the tech tells you which of the three the unit needs, and the quote shows the reason.

Getting a tech to the house

Traffic on Sepulveda and the 405 can turn a short drive into a long wait if the tech is not already working this side of town. We stay local to the Westside, which is how we keep same-day repair realistic across Mar Vista, Palms, West LA and the streets around them. We answer around the clock, and emergency AC repair is available when it cannot wait. Call us directly.

For condos and apartments, check whether the building needs notice before a tech enters. If the repair turns into a replacement, the property manager or HOA signs off on where the outdoor unit sits and how it is screened, and we fold that into the scope.

Questions before you book

Do you work on all brands?

Yes. We service all major brands, and the vans carry parts for them. Tell us the make when you book if you have it, and the tech brings what fits.

How do I know the compressor is the problem?

The tech finds out on the visit. A compressor is replaced only when the diagnosis points to it, and the written quote names it as its own line.

Can you fix a refrigerant leak?

Yes. We detect and repair leaks, and the quote lists the repair and the refrigerant it needs. If your system uses R-22, repairs depend on reclaimed refrigerant, because R-22 is no longer produced.

Do I get anything in writing?

Yes. The quote is written before work starts, and a written diagnostic report follows the visit.
